Let the Lesson Begin!
Your instructor will guide you step by step, starting with how to hold and use the brush.
Gradually, you’ll move on to practicing basic strokes and writing simple characters.
The class is beginner-friendly, and even children are welcome!
We tailor the lesson to your level and goals—whether you're looking for a fun experience or solid foundational practice.
① Tools & Techniques

② Character Practice

Choose your favorite characters and practice writing them step by step. Build your skills while exploring the beauty of Japanese calligraphy.
Time to Create
③ Pick your favorite project and enjoy practicing!

In this step, you will choose the type of artwork you’d like to create — such as a shikishi board, a uchiwa fan, an illustrated postcard, or sutra copying.
- For shikishi boards and fans, you’ll select the kanji you want to write, practice it, and then complete your final work on the special paper or fan.
- For illustrated postcards, you’ll pick a design, practice drawing and writing, and then create your final version on the postcard paper. This activity uses a brush pen.
- For sutra copying, you’ll trace sacred texts over a sample sheet — a beginner-friendly way to enjoy the calming world of shakyo.
Lesson Complete!
④ Take Your Work Home

Take your finished pieces home as a souvenir!
In the summer heat, your handmade fan will come in handy right away.
Rice paper works are lightweight and easy to carry.
